If you’ve got 15 minutes to spare and a spare jar to hand then you’re ready to create this luxurious and moisturising 'Fresh Pits' DIY deodorant.

As DIY deodorant goes, it is a very simple recipe, but leaves you the flexibility to adapt how you want. For example, if you'd rather not use coconut oil, use another light oil like jojoba, plus a little mango or cocoa butter for firmness.

For odour control, we suggest bicarbonate of soda as it's a kitchen cupboard staple, but if you're sensitive to it, or want to achieve a pH that's more balanced for the skin, then you can substitute magnesium hydroxide powder (often used in food supplement tablets and is available on Amazon).

Time to Make: Prep time: 5 minutes. Make time: 10 minutes

You Will Need: a pyrex bowl, microwave or bain marie / double boiler (saucepan to put the pyrex bowl above for melting ingredients), something to stir with, pot or tin for your finished DIY deodorant

  • 1 tablespoon Baking soda OR Magnesium hydroxide powder
  • 2 tablespoon Coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons Arrowroot powder
  • (Optional) 5 drops of essential oil of your choice (bergamot, lemongrass, tea tree and mint all work really well).

Makes about 30ml.

1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl.

2. Heat a pan of water on the hob. Once it reaches boiling place the bowl of ingredients on top of the saucepan and melt.

3. Once melted pour the mixture into an airtight container and leave to cool in the fridge for around three hours.

4. Once set this deodorant can be kept out of the fridge.
