50g of grated soap
300ml distilled water
1tbsp of Glycerin
15 drops of Essential Oil of your choice
Time to Make: Prep time: 10 minutes. Make time: 20 minutes
You will need: scales (to weigh the soap), grater, glass bowl (heat-resistant), hot water (just boiled, not bubbling), spatula or spoon (for stirring), funnel, empty soap bottle or dispenser
1. Use the scales to weigh your soap leftovers.
2. Grate the soap finely using the grater. Finer shavings dissolve faster and more evenly.
3. Place the grated soap into the glass bowl. Pour hot water over it.
4. Stir gently with the spatula until the soap is mostly melted. Some small bits are fine—they’ll dissolve as it cools.
5. Let it cool and thicken, ideally overnight. As it cools, it will thicken into a gel-like liquid soap.
6. Adjust the consistency, if the soap is too thick, stir in a little more warm water until you reach your desired consistency.
7. Add glycerin and essential oil of your choice.
8. Transfer to bottle
9. Ready to use - close the bottle, give it a gentle shake, and your recycled liquid soap is ready.
Tip: different soaps thicken differently, so you may need to tweak the water amount slightly. If it becomes too thin, let it sit uncovered for a few hours to thicken up again.
