60g of Pure Mango Butter (or Organic Unrefined Shea Butter)
30ml of Peony infused Jojoba Oil
5-7g of Tapioca Starch
5 drops of Vitamin E Oil
1tsp of Organic Beetroot Powder for extra colour (optional)
Time to make: About 30 minutes.
You will need a pyrex bowl, bain marie / double boiler (saucepan to put the pyrex bowl above for melting ingredients), hand mixer, spatula and 60ml glass jar for your finished product
1. First, select peony petals that are fresh and free from blemishes or pests. Once you have gathered the petals, spread them out on a clean, dry surface, such as a baking sheet lined with paper towels, to allow them to dry for 24 hours.
2. Hot infusion:
Begin by gently heating the oil and dried peony petals in a heat-proof bowl set over a pot of simmering water. The aim is to warm the oil, not to cook it, so keep the heat low. Allow the mixture to heat gently for about 30 to 60 minutes, stirring occasionally. This process will help extract the essence and properties of the peony petals into the oil. Afterward, remove the oil from heat and let it cool slightly before straining out the petals using a fine mesh sieve.
3. Add mango butter and 30ml of the infused oil to a heat-proof bowl and melt the ingredients.
4.Stir well and let the ingredients to set in the fridge.
5. Once solidified, whisk it using a handheld mixer.
6. Halfway through, add vitamin E and the tapioca starch to make the butter light and fluffy. If your peonies were lighter colour, you can add a teaspoon of beetroot powder to achieve more vibrant colour.
7. Transfer the butter into a sterlised glass jar.
Use it within 3 months.
Always patch test before use.
