Sugar waxing, a natural alternative to traditional waxing methods, can easily be prepared and used at home. This method, known for its simplicity and minimal ingredient list, involves a mixture of sugar, water, and apple cider vinegar or lemon juice. To create the sugar wax, you heat these ingredients until they form a thick, amber-colored syrup. Once it cools, you can apply it to your skin in the direction of hair growth and then quickly remove it, pulling the hair out from the roots.
400g of cane sugar
60ml of water
60ml of apple cider vinegar (or lemon juice)
Time to Make: Prep time: 5 minutes. Make time: 15 minutes
You will need: saucepan, spatula, sugar thermometer
1. Mix the sugar, water and and apple cider vinegar in a saucepan.
2. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it comes to a boil.
3. Continue cooking until the sugar wax reaches 120°C.
4. Remove from the heat and transfer to a heat-resistant glass and let it completely cool down.
5. To test the consistency, pour a little bit of the mixture into a cup and place it in the freezer.
6. Once it is cooled, you can start shaping and “working” your wax, it should be stretchy and pliable, similar to a chewing gum.
7. Try it on a tiny area first to see how it goes, if the wax is too sticky put it back into the saucepan and heat it to a higher temperature.
8. Once it cools, you can apply it to your skin in the direction of hair growth and then quickly remove it, pulling the hair out from the roots.
